Hotel Alchymist Nosticova residence
Description
Welcome to our historical 17th century Residence, located at the end of one of the most romantic and quiet cobblestone street in Mala Strana!
A number of careful conservators of Czech churches and castles, as well as skilled carpenters, plasterers, ceramists, decorators and fresco painters worked for more than two years with attention to details and passion for beauty to refurbish this old mansion into the charming Alchymist Residence Nosticova.
Just two minutes away from the famous Charles Bridge, the Residence is surrounded by antique galleries, typical restaurants and famous concert halls, and it lies in the walking distance from the most prominent Embassies, the Czech Parliament and the Senate, the National theatre, Saint Nicholas cathedral and the Castle.
History of the alchemic residence NOSTICOVANosticova Street, Prague The Lesser Town (Malá Strana)
First references about foundations of the residence date back to 1658. Originally, this historical building also used to be connected with the number 462. Roots of the Nostic residence are related to the original Lazarovska garden which was created at the turn of the 15th and 16th century on the lands of the St. Maria Magdalena Monastery and the Maltesian Monastery of Mother of God under chain. In 1522, the Lesser Town community decided to divide these lands into smaller units - estates. At that time, one-floor separated house was built and nowadays it is a hotel with unique architectonic fragments (e.g. arched ceiling, timberwork, original fragment of stone entry) which were renovated during expensive reconstructions.
The owner of the residence, Mr. Giorgio Bonelli, is an Italian investor and mainly lover of art. Even though it exceeded his financial opportunities, he was willing to re-support this unique object which has been a decoration of the Nosticova Street for 350 years.
The oldest preserved part of the Dum u Jeziska in Lesser Town is the rear part of the structure facing the court-yard, built after 1591. The lower part of the original tower structure, the perimeter masonry of which is supported by steel bars, could date from the fortification of the Lesser Town in 1257, the oldest Premyslid fortification.
During this long period, there were several owners of the residence, for example Mr. Jan Josef Schifl who had bought the Nostic residence in 1731 and, therefore, according to this noble gentleman's name the building had been renamed to the "Schifl House". After the year 1814, the Nostic residence already had three floors and it also boasted decorated supporting pillars which were destroyed during war, much to our regret. There exists only some note with the detailed description of the residence that dates back to the year 1865 and it is written in it that, at that time, the residence consisted of 4 apartments, 5 rooms and, moreover, a hall. There is also another information which was managed to remain well preserved and it says that the former wall inside the rooms were made from wood and entries to the apartments led across the plank exterior corridor with a partitioned porch.
According to the extant Langwel model of Prague we know today that during the years 1826 and 1837 the facade that leads to the Hellichova Street was beautified. The facade was made of six axes and had two floors. It was decorated by the mansard roof and two dormer-windows, as well. Nevertheless, frontage leading to the Nosticova Street remained unchanged, that means made of five axes with interesting three dormer-windows. In the north-west part of the plot of land, there used to be a well.
To maintain the unique atmosphere of the residence, we took the liberty of naming single rooms according to some famous persons who created the history of the town during many centuries.
